Take a (Ferris Bueller's) Day Off

I have only two speeds. Go go go, or full stop. There are (most) days when I start early, and keep going until I fall into bed (too late) at night. If I'm doing something, I'm ALL IN. And, like a lot of us, I have too much going on - various projects, assignments, deadlines, and then when I finish those, I have wish list projects I'll work on. Some people call that being a workaholic, but I love what I do so it doesn't feel like work. Because of that, I can easily spend way too many hours staring at this laptop.

Let's be honest, I don't do a good enough job unplugging and relaxing. Those that know me...I can feel you shaking your head, "yup" as you read this. Every so often, after several days in a row, I'll hit a wall. My husband knows it when he sees it...I come in, grab a blanket and head to the couch. He pours the wine and queues up the TV. The dogs are thrilled and curl up on my lap and the biggest decision is what movie to watch.

Ferris Bueller, the iconic character in 'Ferris Beuller's Day Off' says, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

He was right. And so was my Mom (don't you hate it when that happens?!) She literally writes "stop and smell the roses" in every card she's ever given me.

So as much as I talk about achieving goals, planning and productivity, I also talk a lot about the Big Rocks of Life, and one of those Big Rocks is fun and relaxation. It's a beautiful, sunny day today. I'm shutting this laptop and headed out on a hike with my husband, daughter, and of course, the pups. I'm taking a (Ferris Beuller's) Day Off because I don't want to miss this. Enjoy your day!
